WASHINGTON — TODAY, FRIDAY, Congresswoman Cheri Bustos (IL-17) will join the ribbon cutting ceremony for the Grand Illinois Trail Connector in East Moline before traveling to Galena to complete her final Cheri-on-Shift at the Blaum Bros. Distilling Company.

At 10:00am CST in East Moline, Congresswoman Bustos will join Mayors Reggie Freeman and Matt Carter, as well as other local elected officials and community leaders to announce the beginning of Phase 1 of the Grand Illinois Trail Connector. The Grand Illinois Trail is a 475-mile trail through northern Illinois that links Lake Michigan with the Mississippi River and connects metropolitan Chicago, Rockford and the Quad Cities with rural communities, state parks and other attractions. Congresswoman Bustos was a member of the East Moline City Council when the contract for this project was first signed and worked on this and other trails as a member of Mayor John Thodos’ “Pathway Priorities Project” committee.

Later, at 1:00pm CST, Congresswoman Bustos will complete her 120th – and final – Cheri-on-Shift at the Blaum Bros. Distilling Company in Galena. Blaum Bros. Distilling Co. was founded in 2013 by Mike and Matt Blaum, and is famous for its bourbons, vodkas and gins. In March of 2020, the company temporarily converted its equipment to manufacture hand sanitizer, which was donated to first responders and medical units to fight the COVID-19 pandemic.
