ROCK CITY: Bustos Announces $200,000 Grant for Arrow Farm Meats LLC

ROCK CITY — Today, Congresswoman Cheri Bustos (IL-17) announced that Arrow Farm Meats LLC in Rock City, Illinois will receive a $200,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Meat and Poultry Inspection Readiness Grant program. Funds will be used to help the facility become compliant with USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service guidelines.

“Throughout our region and across the country, small meat processing facilities have been particularly hard hit by the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. These facilities are essential to our food supply chain and our local economy,” said Congresswoman Bustos. “As we work to support small meat processors, I’m thrilled that Arrow Farm Meats in Rock City will receive $200,000 in funding I voted for to improve their operation, create three new jobs and provide approximately 100 farmers with a new market for processing.”

Arrow Farm Meats is a small, family-owned meat processing facility located in Rock City, Illinois. With assistance from USDA, Arrow Farm Meats will double their cold storage area and triple their packaging capabilities to better serve customers across the region. They anticipate the ability to process an additional seven beef cattle per week and two hogs per month, three new jobs and a new market for processing that will benefit approximately 100 farmers.

In June 2021, USDA announced the availability of $55.2 million in Meat and Poultry Inspection Readiness Grant program funding, accepting applications for a competitive grant award process, resulting in this award. The funding was allocated by Congress through the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2021, which passed the House of Representatives with Congresswoman Bustos’s support on December 21, 2020.
