Quad-City Times: Bustos, Loebsack meet with Q-C community leaders

Reps. Dave Loebsack, D-Iowa, and Cheri Bustos, D-Illinois, met today with about 30 Quad-City community leaders to discuss regional economic issues.

The meetings were among a series arranged during a two-day visit to Washington, D.C., that is organized by the Quad-Cities Chamber of Commerce.

Items up for discussion included the Quad-Cities Advanced Manufacturing Innovation Hub, the Interstate 74 Mississippi River Bridge Corridor Project and federal Department of Transportation Act funding, and ongoing support for the Rock Island Arsenal.

“I look forward to continuing the fight for the economic well-being of all our communities as we work together to make our region an even better place to live, work and raise a family,” Bustos said.

Bustos said she also had talks with the group about passenger rail service for the region including Amtrak service between the Quad-Cities and Chicago, and improving the aging lock and dam system along the Mississippi River.

Loebsack said that meeting with the local leaders in Washington, “gives me a very important opportunity to continue the conversation we have when I am in the district. I look forward to working alongside them and being a strong voice for the region’s priorities.”
