“The COVID-19 pandemic has touched every corner of our community – from our health care centers to our transit hubs,” said Congresswoman Bustos. “I thank CGH Medical Center and MetroLINK for hosting me today to learn more about their efforts to rebuild from the pandemic and continue to serve our neighbors to ensure folks have access to the care and transportation they depend on. I’m proud to have passed bold relief packages to deliver relief to Illinoisans throughout this public health crisis and am committed to working alongside local leaders as we build back better.”

To bolster resources to improve mental health during crisis, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic and in the wake of the opioid crisis, Congresswoman Bustos has championed the Crisis Care Improvement and Suicide Prevention Act and the Rural America Health Corps Act, which would help address workforce shortages in rural health care by creating a new loan repayment program to incentivize the recruitment and retainment of health care professionals.

In response to the pandemic, Congresswoman Bustos passed a series of bold packages to deliver relief to Illinoisans. As part of the CARES Act, Congresswoman Bustos helped secure nearly $9 million in funding for MetroLink, who recently reopened the Channel Cat, for operational expenses, bus purchases, facility maintenance, and communications equipment in order to respond to and recover from COVID-19.
