WASHINGTON – Late yesterday, Congresswoman Cheri Bustos (IL-17) welcomed Carlea Kiddoo of Mercer County High School to the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C. Kiddoo’s painting, “Fluidity as One,” was the winner of Illinois’ 17th Congressional District’s 2016 Congressional Art Competition, “An Artistic Discovery.” Her artwork will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for a year.
“It was an honor to welcome Carlea and her family to the U.S. Capitol this week, and to recognize the talent we have within our region,” said Congresswoman Cheri Bustos. “I’m so proud of Carlea and her beautiful artwork, as well as everyone in Illinois’ 17th Congressional District who submitted entries this year. Meeting with young students like Carlea reminds me of what a bright future we have ahead of us. I’d like to encourage other young artists to participate in next year’s Congressional Art Competition, and I can’t wait to see what they create.”
All high school students from Illinois’ 17th Congressional District were eligible to submit their original artwork for consideration. To enter, students submitted a digital image of their artwork through Bustos’ website.
