GALESBURG: Bustos Announces More Than $2.8 Million in Federal Funding for Head Start Programs

GALESBURG — Today, Congresswoman Cheri Bustos (IL-17), a member of the powerful House Appropriations Committee, announced that the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has awarded more than $2.8 million in federal funding for Head Start programs at West Central Community Services, Inc., which serves Knox, Warren and Henderson counties. 

“By supporting Head Start programs in Knox, Warren and Henderson counties, we are encouraging a lifetime of learning for our youngest students,” said Congresswoman Bustos. “Today, I’m pleased to announce that over $2.8 million in federal funds are heading to West Central Community Services Inc. This funding will help set up our children for success in school and beyond.”

Head Start promotes school readiness for young children from birth to age five by providing programming to enhance cognitive, social and emotional development. Head Start programs are operated by local nonprofit organizations, community action agencies and school districts. Currently, Head Start programs serve more than 36 million children.

Congresswoman Bustos is a member of the Appropriations Subcommittee that oversees the funding for the Department of Health and Human Services.
