WASHINGTON – Today, Congresswoman Cheri Bustos (IL-17) voted to prevent a midnight government shutdown by passing a measure that will keep the federal government open for a week.
“While I’m glad a government shutdown was prevented for at least the next week, governing from crisis to crisis isn’t how Washington should work. For the last 100 days, Washington Republicans have controlled the House, the Senate and the White House, but they can’t seem to get their act together. It’s my hope that this will not be the new normal. Instead, they should start taking their responsibility to the American people more seriously and start working across the aisle to achieve bipartisan results.”
