Congresswoman Cheri Bustos statement on President Trump’s Infrastructure Proposal

Washington – Today, Congresswoman Cheri Bustos (IL-17) issued the following statement about President Trump’s infrastructure plan:

“On the night President Trump was elected, I said I’d be willing to work with his administration if they’re willing to make a real effort to strengthen our economy, and getting a substantive bipartisan infrastructure investment is an essential part of that effort. While there are some aspects I like about the President’s infrastructure proposal, I am very concerned that his plan rests almost entirely on asking businesses, cash-strapped states and small towns across our nation to open up their wallets and pay for nearly 90 percent of his plan. Without a real federal investment, I am worried that hardworking families in rural communities across the heartland will get left behind again – this is why Democrats introduced our Better Deal to Rebuild America last week.

“On the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, we’ll be working hard to deliver a true bipartisan package to grow our economy, create jobs and get millions of Americans to work.”

Background:

This past October, Congresswoman Bustos visited the White House to meet with Transportation officials in the Trump administration. At this meeting, she presented them with a letter detailing her infrastructure priorities to grow the economy and create jobs across rural America.

On Thursday, House Democrats rolled out the Better Deal to Rebuild America. This is a $1 trillion proposal to invest in our roads, bridges, schools, airports and inland waterways while creating 16 million good-paying jobs.

Congresswoman Bustos is a member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee where this infrastructure package will be negotiated.
