Today, Congresswoman Cheri Bustos (IL-17) issued the following statement following Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood announcing his resignation:
“Today, I join with folks across my district in thanking Secretary Ray LaHood for his service as Secretary of Transportation, as well as his decades of service to the people of Illinois and all Americans.
“A native Peorian, Ray served the people of our area honorably as a teacher, an aide to two former U.S. Congressmen and later as a Congressman himself and most recently as the U.S. Secretary of Transportation.
“I admire Ray not only for the tremendous work he has done rebuilding our roads, bridges, rail and airports, but for the way he has always made an effort to work across the aisle and put people, not politics first. We need more leaders who share this bipartisan, common sense approach to problem solving in Washington.
“Gerry and I wish Ray and Kathy nothing but the best going forward.”
