Today, Congresswoman Cheri Bustos (IL-17) announced $2.1 million in federal funding that will go toward improving the Chicago/Rockford International Airport. The grants were awarded through the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration.
“I’m pleased today to announce this important transportation investment for the Chicago/Rockford International Airport,” said Congresswoman Cheri Bustos. “Today’s grant will help the Rockford region meet its infrastructure and transportation needs while also creating jobs and growing the local economy.”
One of today’s grants, worth $738,902, will be used to construct the cargo apron to meet the demand for additional aircraft parking. The other grant, worth $1,427,739, will fund the acquisition and installation of a ten foot perimeter security fencing, which will enhance security and prevent wildlife from entering the airport.
Congresswoman Bustos, a member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, has been a long-time champion of investing in infrastructure to improve our economy and create jobs.
