Congresswoman Bustos statement on re-vote of Washington Republicans’ Tax Scam

WASHINGTON – Congresswoman Cheri Bustos (IL-17) today voted against Speaker Ryan’s tax scam for the second time in two days.

“The fact that the House voted on a tax scam bill that violated Congressional procedure just shows how rushed and careless this tax plan is,” Congresswoman Bustos said. “Let’s call it what it is – a scam that will raise taxes on hardworking families, make it easier for big companies to ship their jobs overseas, and explode the national debt so Washington Republicans have an excuse to cut Social Security and Medicare. I am deeply disappointed that this partisan scam has been shoved through Congress to appease corporate special interests rather than the middle-class families I serve. I will keep fighting to repair the damage Washington Republicans have done, and will keep demanding better jobs, better wages, and a better future for all Americans.”

The Senate parliamentarian ruled that the bill the House of Representatives passed yesterday included provisions that violated Senate rules, requiring the House to vote yet again.

Today the bill passed by a vote of 224 – 201.
