Congresswoman Bustos statement on President Trump withdrawing from the Iran Nuclear Agreement

Washington, D.C. – Today, following President Trump’s decision to withdraw the United States from the Iran Nuclear Agreement, Congresswoman Cheri Bustos issued the following statement:

“I grew up believing in an America that stands tall by leading international coalitions, keeping its promises and doing the hard work to build a safer future for the world. At the end of the day, the President has the authority to make this decision, however I do not see how walking away from a deal that currently has nuclear inspectors on the ground in Iran makes Americans any safer. Additionally, if our new policy is to turn our backs on international agreements, what kind of message does this send to the rest of the world? I am hopeful that, despite this announcement, we can continue working with our international partners to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons.”
