Bustos Votes to Protect Full Faith & Credit of United States

WASHINGTON — Today, Congresswoman Cheri Bustos (IL-17), voted to keep the United States from an unprecedented default, preventing severe economic consequences.

“Never in history has our nation defaulted on its debts, and that won’t change on my watch,” said Congresswoman Bustos. “Today, I voted to ensure that our nation pays its bills and keeps the obligations we’ve made to the American people. It’s as simple as that.”

It is expected that President Biden will sign this legislation into law, allowing the federal government to continue meeting financial obligations. This bill addresses previously approved spending, including bipartisan COVID relief, payments to Social Security recipients, payments of veterans’ benefits and paychecks for members of the military, and does not authorize any future spending.
