WASHINGTON — Today, Congresswoman Cheri Bustos (IL-17) voted to pass the bipartisan Community Services Block Grant Modernization Act of 2022,which would deliver vital resources to help community organizations in Northwest and Central Illinois reduce poverty.
“Local organizations are some of our best tools to address poverty in our local communities – and for decades, the Community Services Block Grant program has been central to supporting their efforts,” said Congresswoman Bustos. “Today, I voted to make long-overdue investments in job training programs, housing initiatives and health services by reauthorizing this important program. Not only will this bring resources to our communities, but it will advance economic stability across Northwest and Central Illinois.”
The Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) program supports a network of more than 1,000 organizations nationwide that meet communities’ unique needs. CSBG is currently the only federal program with the overarching goal of reducing poverty, regardless of cause or condition.
Organizations in Illinois’ 17th Congressional District that would benefit from the bill include the Fulton County Health Department, Knox County Health Department, Northwestern Illinois Community Action Agency, Peoria Citizens Committee for Economic Opportunity, Inc., Rockford Human Services Department and Tazwood Community Services, Inc.
