Bustos Votes for Bipartisan National Defense Authorization Act

Bill includes language supporting the Rock Island Arsenal, Rockford’s Aerospace Industry and Peoria’s 182nd Airlift Wing

Washington- Today, Congresswoman Cheri Bustos voted for the bipartisan National Defense Authorization Act which included several key local priorities she has fought for. Specifically, the bill includes the following:

  • Authorization of $9 million for a new fire station at the 182nd Airlift Wing in Peoria.
  • Authorization for the purchase of 77 F-35 Joint Strike Fighters and $92 million for spare parts for the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter, which supports Rockford’s aerospace industry.
  • Language supporting the new Center of Excellence for Advanced and Additive Manufacturing at the Rock Island Arsenal. Congresswoman Bustos worked with Rep. Dave Loebsack and the Senators from both Illinois and Iowa to include this language.
  • A 2.6% pay raise for our servicemembers, which is the highest increase in 9 years.

“At a time of great partisanship in Washington, I’m proud that we were able to work across the aisle to pass a defense package that strengthens our local economy and supports our troops,” said Congresswoman Cheri Bustos. “We worked hard to make sure this bill included language to bolster manufacturing at the Rock Island Arsenal, keep workers in Rockford’s aerospace industry on the job and improve facilities in Peoria’s Air National Guard base. I’m also especially proud that, at a time with so much uncertainty in the world, we are providing the brave men and women in uniform with a pay raise. I hope that in the coming months, Democrats and Republicans will be able to work together on additional bipartisan priorities.”

Today’s vote was on the final conference version of the National Defense Authorization and after it’s voted on in the Senate, it will go to the President’s desk to be signed into law.
