Bustos Statement on Vote to Hold Steve Bannon in Contempt of Congress

WASHINGTON — Today, Congresswoman Cheri Bustos (D-IL-17) issued the following statement on her vote to hold former White House aide Steve Bannon in contempt of Congress for his failure to comply with a subpoena from the House Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the United States Capitol.

“In this country, no American is above the law, and today’s bipartisan vote lives up to that promise. Steve Bannon’s refusal to comply with the Committee’s subpoena as they investigate the Jan. 6 insurrection is unacceptable. No one should impede this historic investigation.

“I was on the floor of the House when a mob broke into the Capitol and forced us to flee for our lives. This is not a question of politics or party – it’s a matter of right or wrong, truth or lies. Today, I joined my colleagues in standing for truth.”
