“It deeply saddens me as an American to realize that we’re really at the point where a member of the President’s senior campaign team just pled guilty to lying to the FBI about his collusion with Vladimir Putin’s government. Additionally, today’s separate indictments against President Trump’s former campaign manager and his associate for conspiracy, money laundering and making false statements to the FBI make very clear that this is just the beginning.
“In light of today’s developments, it’s even more important than ever that we ensure Special Prosecutor Robert Mueller can continue his investigation without interference from the White House. As long as President Trump maintains the authority to fire Mr. Mueller, our democracy is at risk. This is why I once again call on Speaker Paul Ryan to stop putting partisanship ahead of patriotism by obstructing a truly independent Congressional special investigation. This isn’t a matter of partisan politics, this is a matter of national security.
“While this is a dark day in our nation’s history, I have no doubt that all of the facts will come out and justice will prevail.”
