BUSTOS ON MSNBC: “HELP IS ON THE WAY”
Bustos on American Rescue Plan: “We’ve got to get to work here.”
WASHINGTON – This morning, Congresswoman Cheri Bustos (IL-17) joined MSNBC Live with Kendis Gibson and Lindsey Reiser to discuss the American Rescue Plan. The big and bold package recently passed the House and would deliver COVID-19 relief to Illinois families and provide support for vaccines, resources to schools to help them reopen and essential services in towns and cities and more.
Excerpts from the interview:
Bustos on the importance of delivering COVID-19 relief for Illinoisans:
“101,000 people in the Congressional District I serve… have contracted coronavirus. We have 113,000 children – kids – who haven’t been able to return back to school full-time. In the state of Illinois, we now have 20,000 Illinoisans who have lost their lives… There just has to be a real sense of urgency.
…
We’ve got to get to work here. President Biden understands that… The momentum is with us to get this going. The momentum is with President Biden to get this signed into law.”
Bustos on what the American Rescue Plan means for Illinois families:
“I supported [the American Rescue Plan] because we need to have that additional unemployment help…we need that additional $1,400 that are going to go to families…we need to make sure that we can resume the help at the very granular level back to our towns – the trash collection, snow plowing, making sure our police officers are not laid off and our fire fighters are not laid off.”
