ROCKFORD, IL – Today, Congresswoman Cheri Bustos (IL-17) and U.S. Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) announced $455,869 in federal funding from the U.S. Department of Transportation for the Chicago Rockford International Airport. These funds will be used for the construction of a 30,000 square yard cargo apron to provide aircraft parking to meet the demand of existing users of the airport. The grant will also provide funding to reimburse the apron construction. This is phase 10 of a 10 phase project.
“The Chicago Rockford International Airport is a critically important part of our regional transportation network and our local economy which is why I’m so proud to announce this investment in Rockford’s future,” said Congresswoman Cheri Bustos. “By delivering these federal dollars, we’re making necessary improvements to our infrastructure system that will make Rockford a better place to live, work and raise a family.”
“Northern Illinois’ economic growth depends on our airports, and Chicago Rockford International Airport is no exception. Today’s funding will help create jobs and ensure that RFD can keep up with air travel demands,” said Durbin. “With continued federal investment, we can guarantee that Rockford’s airport will continue to provide reliable air service and create new economic opportunities for local residents.”
