MOLINE – Today, Congresswoman Cheri Bustos (IL-17) and Senators Dick Durbin and Tammy Duckworth announced $52 million in federal funding for the Rock Island Arsenal. These federal dollars will be used to enhance and secure mission readiness for the Army Sustainment Command Headquarters. Specifically, the project will repair interior and exterior walls, windows, floor layout, ceilings, plumbing, HVAC, fire protection, electric, lighting, communications, information technology systems, insulation and abatement of lead paint and asbestos.
“The Rock Island Arsenal makes significant contributions to the overall strength and readiness of our nation’s defense,” said Congresswoman Bustos. “This major federal investment reflects the value and expertise our men and women in uniform at the Arsenal have to offer and will only expand their capabilities into the future. Having up-to-date infrastructure will help the Arsenal maintain their high quality of work and further support their efforts by having a safe and modern facility. As a member of the Appropriations Committee, I look forward to working Senators Durbin and Duckworth to support the Rock Island Arsenal for future success.”
“This large federal investment in the Rock Island Arsenal will be a boost to the service members who work in the Army Sustainment Command HQ,” Senator Durbin said. “The men and women of the Arsenal are some of the best and brightest we have in our military. I’m proud to fight for federal investments – alongside Senator Duckworth and Representative Bustos – that improve the installation for years to come.”
“Ensuring the long-term success of Rock Island Arsenal is one my top priorities in Congress, and investments like these are critical,” Senator Duckworth said. “The work that is done at the Arsenal is vital to our national security, and I’m pleased this significant federal investment in the Army Sustainment Command HQ will help the hardworking men and women better do their jobs. I will continue to advocate with Congresswoman Bustos and Senator Durbin for the Rock Island Arsenal.”
Army Sustainment Command is charged with providing responsive strategic logistics capabilities and materiel readiness to soldiers serving in Combat Commands in the United States and across the globe. In March, Congresswoman Bustos raised the concern of how the military plans to update aging infrastructure in military facilities like the Rock Island Arsenal – which has been around since the Civil War – to Department of Defense officials during a House Appropriations Subcommittee on Military Construction and Veterans Affairs hearing. Additionally, Congresswoman Bustos – along with Senators Durbin and Duckworth – have been fierce advocates for strengthening the Rock Island Arsenal and expanding their manufacturing capabilities to support military readiness.
