Bustos Delivers Key Defense Appropriations Priorities to Acting Secretary, Top Officials at Pentagon

WASHINGTON – Today at the Pentagon, Congresswoman Cheri Bustos (IL-17) hand-delivered her top defense appropriations priorities for Illinois’ 17th Congressional District to Acting Secretary of Defense Patrick Shanahan. Congresswoman Bustos is a member of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense – which oversees the Pentagon and nearly all defense spending. Also at the meeting were General Joseph Dunford, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff; Heather Wilson, Secretary of the Air Force; Richard Spencer, Secretary of the Navy; and new members of the Subcommittee on Defense.

“Today’s meeting was an opportunity to lay the foundation for our region and its defense priorities,” Congresswoman Bustos said. “In addition to ensuring the men and women defending our country have the resources they need, as a member of the Defense Appropriations Subcommittee, I’ll be a strong voice for the Rock Island Arsenal, the Air National Guard in Peoria and the suppliers who create good-paying jobs in Rockford and across our region. I look forward to working with Acting Secretary Shanahan and our military leaders to ensure these programs are successful for the future.”

Congresswoman Bustos outlined these key priorities for Acting Secretary Shanahan:

  1. Adequately support and grow the workload at the Rock Island Arsenal
  2. Support for the 182nd Airlift Wing of the Air National Guard in Peoria, IL
  3. Support for defense and aerospace contractors in areas like Rockford, IL
