PEORIA — Today, Congresswoman Cheri Bustos (IL-17) announced that Peoria Public Schools District 150 will be receiving a $100,000 grant from U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to purchase five new, more environmentally friendly school buses. The funding comes through the 2021 Diesel Emission Reduction Act (DERA) School Bus Rebates program which is distributing more than $10 million to reduce emissions nationwide.
“Everything we can do to reduce emissions and improve efficiency is a step worth taking,” said Congresswoman Bustos.“I’m excited to announce that Peoria Public Schools District 150 will be receiving $100,000 in federal funding to help them purchase five new school buses that are more environmentally friendly. Not only will this cut emissions, but it will also help to reduce fuel costs.”
The Diesel Emissions Reduction Act allows EPA to offer rebates in addition to grants to reduce harmful emissions from older vehicles. The rebate program has funded vehicle replacements or retrofits for over 2,000 vehicles. Typically, the rebate application period opens in the fall and projects are completed in less than one year.
