After Attorney General Lies Under Oath, Bustos Calls for Resignation

WASHINGTON – Today, upon revelations that Attorney General Jeff Sessions committed perjury by saying he did not meet with Russian officials during the campaign, Congresswoman Cheri Bustos (IL-17) issued the following statement:

“Attorney General Jeff Sessions lied under oath before the Senate Judiciary Committee, proving that he is unfit to lead the Justice Department as our nation’s top law enforcement officer. This is disqualifying – he should be held accountable and resign immediately,” Congresswoman Bustos said. Revelations of the Trump Administration’s ties to the Kremlin are a clear and urgent national security concern. We must go where the facts lead us. Once again, I am calling for an independent investigation to gain a full understanding of just how deep President Trump’s ties to Russia are.”

On Jan. 10 at a Senate Judiciary Committee confirmation hearing, then-Senator Sessions said – under oath – that, “I have been called a surrogate at a time or two in that campaign and I did not have communications with the Russians.”
