Bustos Legislation Included in Make It In America Plan to Strengthen Our Region’s Manufacturing Economy
MOLINE, IL – Yesterday, House Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer announced that two of Congresswoman Cheri Bustos’ (IL-17) bills have been included in the Make It In America plan. Her legislation, the Boosting America’s Exports Act and the All-American Flag Act, are included in a larger package of bills that aim to encourage private sector job creation in the United States.
“Our region is home to some of the most talented and hard-working men and women in the world, and with our rich manufacturing history, we have a lot of potential to lead America’s 21st century manufacturing economy,” Congresswoman Bustos said. “By boosting small business exports and making flags here in the United States, I’m working to ensure that our businesses are able to compete and succeed in today’s economy, and that we aren’t shipping good-paying American jobs overseas. I’m grateful for Whip Hoyer’s support and leadership on this issue, and I will continue working with him to strengthen Illinois’ manufacturing economy.”
“I recently joined Rep. Bustos at a manufacturer in her district to discuss the new Make It In America plan, and I’m pleased to include her bills – The Boosting American Exports Act and All-American Flag Act – in the plan to help strengthen manufacturing here at home,” House Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer said. “By directing the Commerce Department to develop and implement a plan to increase exports by small- and medium-sized businesses and requiring the federal government to purchase United States flags manufactured entirely in the United States, we can help more of our businesses and workers make it in America. I look forward to working with her to advance this jobs agenda, and I thank her for her commitment to American manufacturing.”
The Make It In America plan was launched in 2010 by Whip Hoyer, and the plan focuses on four areas of action: expanding entrepreneurship and innovation, closing the skills gap, building a 21st century infrastructure, and breaking down barriers to manufacturing.
